The primary aim of this Health Safety & Environmental Manager role is to maintain and further develop the existing Health, Safety and Environmental management systems in accordance with the applicable ISO standards, and is responsible for driving the continual development of a safety positive culture to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related illnesses in the workplace and work to achieve sustainability goals set by the company.
The Health Safety & Environmental Manager will have a stable permanent work record and extensive UK experience in Health and Safety. Your skills will have been developed within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment
Main Responsibilities:
To maintain the on-going management and development of the companies Health, Safety and Environmental management systems detailing, policy, responsibilities, accidents and incidents, Risk Assessments, legislation documents, COSHH, Reports, Procedures and all relevant Health & Safety documentation.
Maintain register for all EHS incidents, and support investigations, make recommendations to Leadership management team for any improvements in safety standards as required. Where applicable prepare and submission of RIDDOR reports to the HSE as required.
Carry out trend analysis for accidents and incidents to drive continuous improvement activities.
Identify, review and assess relevant legislation and other requirements
Fire Alarm Testing and Evacuation drills are performed routinely.
Ensure routine inspection of system, detectors, emergency lighting fire extinguishers is organised and conducted at agreed or legislative intervals.
Assist management in risk assessment for the control of equipment and activities within their respective areas to ensure that any hazards or defects are rectified immediately. Ensuring that Risk Assessments are performed and reviewed routinely and action items worked on. Report to senior management any areas of high risk and non-completion of agreed action items.
Work with management team and departments to review and establish safe systems of work.
Health Safety and Environment Manager will oversee contract work being carried out on site ensuring risk assessments and method statements have been submitted prior to commencement of activity and Induction is carried out.
Training all staff in safety issues, processes and procedures, and advising them on protective clothing and equipment where necessary. They also act as a key point of contact for any member of staff who has a query or concern regarding the safety of the workplace.
Work with management and others to establish system of “Tool Box Talks” relating to raising Health & Safety Awareness
Management of COSHH inc. carrying out COSHH Risk Assessments. Advising management of their responsibilities under COSHH regulations.
Work with management on developing arrangements for emergency procedure such as first aid, fire-fighting and evacuation, spillage control.
Responsible for inducting all new employees in company Health & Safety procedures.
Organise and oversee compliance testing and inspections
Work with HR with regards to Occupational Health Intervention activities and legislative occupational health screening and to promote employee wellbeing within the workplace.
Point of contact to advise on information pertinent to Health & Safety and Environmental issues
Development of, and supporting Internal Audit Programme in accordance with the company’s OHSMS & EMS
Chair the Health Safety and Environment committee.
Conducting fire risk assessments
Implementing corrective and preventive actions as a result of accident/incident investigation and audits.
Implementation and maintenance of Environment, Health & Safety documents to manage CAPA including the generation of reports and the presentation of these to Management.
REACH contact and advisor for the company.
Sole responsibility for all waste management contractors and waste legislation/requirements.
Development of employees to enable them to conduct EHS related tasks.
Responsibility for maintaining the Ecovadis Sustainability Portal
Responsibility of conducting and developing Gemba Walks, Hazard Hunts and implement new HSE initiatives
